Title:  Legal Counsel (Laos)

Job Summary

Manage the resolution of all country in-house legal matters as part of the function's legal management role and work closely with country BU/ Function Head.

General Responsibilities

• Contract management and resolution of legal matters related to commercial contracts

• Responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating of business contracts, agreements, documents etc.

• Provide legal advisory to internal stakeholders. Gain better understanding of the business and its various processes to enhance the quality of legal advice given and enhance the company operation being in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

• Advise on issues relating to pre-litigation, litigation matters and debt recovery actions, including monitoring of status of cases.

• Manage external counsels for litigation and corporate matters and oversee all works related thereto.

• Responsible in conducting legal trainings and user trainings in managing the legal contract database with internal stakeholders.

• Manage country legal/compliance projects to ensure areas needing change and improvement are acted upon.

• Keep up to date with laws, regulations, and best practices. 

• Provide regular and necessary reports to management including to highlight the trend or issue of current situation and provide recommendations.

• Conduct legal research in relation to the assignments given.

• Manage legal databases as needed.

• Other ad-hoc legal tasks from time to time.

Functional Skills and Knowledge

• Demonstrate knowledge of corporate law, contract and commercial law, including country-specific laws
• Demonstrate fluency in English (both written and spoken). Fluency in Lao (spoken & written) is preferred. Proficiency in any other language is an additional asset.
• Demonstrate ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with integrity

• Demonstrate proficiencies in office productivity tools (e.g. Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

• Demonstrate knowledge of adaptation of the law within the cultural/legal framework of Laos

Education

• Degree in Law from top-tier university in Laos or abroad or related field
