Job summary:
A distribution driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting goods from distribution centers or warehouses to customers, retail stores, or other locations. Key duties include loading/unloading vehicles, verifying orders, following assigned routes, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, adhering to traffic laws, and providing excellent customer service.
Job Responsibilities:
- Delivery & Transportation: Delivering a variety of items to different addresses and through different routes, adhering to time schedules until customers racks.
- Loading/Unloading: Assisting with the loading, securing, and unloading of goods, which may require significant physical strength and lifting.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conducting daily inspections of the vehicle (fuel levels, tires, engine) to ensure it is in safe working order.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate logs, records, and documentation for deliveries, including obtaining customer signatures of POD.
- Route Navigation: Using GPS and navigation tools to find the best, most efficient routes to avoid delays.
- Customer Service: Acting as the face of the company, interacting with clients in a professional, courteous manner, and handling inquiries or complaints.
Job Requirements:
- High school or equivalent.
- Ability to operate forklifts or pallet jacks is an advantage (if required in warehouse-heavy roles).
- Familiarity with GPS, navigation systems, and mobile apps.
- Licensing: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no major traffic violations). HGV license ‘E’ is required for the vehicles BTM 4001kg.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy packages, walk, climb stairs, and work long hours.
- Time Management: Exceptional ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills for customer interaction and reporting issues.
- Experience: Previous experience as a delivery driver or in a similar logistics role is often preferred.
