Title: Assistant Manager, Credit and Collections

Job Summary
Manage the implementation of credit policy, processes and internal controls. Assign credit limits, review credit/collection history and follow-up on key outstanding debtors balances.
General Responsibilities
- Manage departmental operating budgets and costs according to annual allocation to ensure efficient usage of resources.
- Manage the implementation of credit policy, processes and internal controls to ensure governance over the Credit Control/Collections function.
- Assign credit limits on new customer accounts based on the existing credit policy and creditworthiness of new customers.
- Review credit and collection history of existing customers. Anticipate those who are likely to default on payments and proactively monitor their payments.
- Follow-up on key outstanding debtors/intercompany balances and recommend solutions to recover debts. Critically assess those balances that are no longer recoverable.
- Manage the customer master file, including ledger updates and reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate month-end closing. Review reports and status updates prepared.
- Manage continuous improvement initiatives to streamline existing credit control/collection processes and improve efficiencies through a better utilization of automated systems.
- Partner with internal stakeholders in improving collections (e.g. days sales outstanding, monthly collection targets, etc.) and resolving potential collection issues.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers to ensure timely recovery of payments.
Functional Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the business and industry.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge and application of local/international accounting standards, principles and practices; credit control experience is preferred.
- Proven hands-on experience in SAP accounting applications is an advantage.
- Demonstrate advanced research and analytical skills.
- Demonstrate fluency in English (both written and spoken)
Education
- Degree or professional qualification in Accounting/Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum five to eight years’ experience in a similar role.
- Minimum two to three years’ experience in a managerial capacity.
